FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What do I need to bring in when I am booking my notebook in under warranty to ensure it is promptly processed without any unnecessary delays?

A: Before you bring your notebook in for repairs, We advise that you go through this step by step checklist to make sure that you have tick the following even before you come into the service department. It is also advice that you bring this checklist along on any notes you might have written down. Click here to download the PDF version

Q: What is the difference between hardware and a software problem and will I be charged for either?

A: Hardware is the physical components of a computer (such as the screen, keyboard etc) and software is the files and programs stored on the computer. Because software is not a physical component, it can readily be modified or removed by the user or applications installed in the machine. No manufacturer can cover software under the warranty because of this fact. If the unit is under warranty and the problem turns out to be hardware, meaning the hardware that was purchased with the machine is causing the problem, their will be no charge and will be repaired under the warranty. If the problem is caused by the software in the machine and wasn’t there when the machine was purchased, this will not be covered by warranty and will be charged, if you decide you would like a repair attempted, on a per hour basis. Please see the price list for relevant charges.

If the unit is not under warranty, there is a quotation charge for looking at the hardware in the machine, and software is again, repaired on a per hour basis.

Q: Will configuring my computer for internet, wireless and wired networking and/or printing etc be done for me or is that chargeable service?

A: These are all chargeable services that a technician can perform either in the workshop or at the location where the machine is going to be used. If you would like it done in the workshop, there is only so much we can do. As we are not at the location, we are unable to test some of the work that is carried out.
